ContemporaryNordic Art
Original paintings shaped by northern light, wildlife and the quiet landscapes of Trysil, Norway.
“I don’t want to simply paint landscapes – I want to capture emotion, atmosphere and a very particular kind of Nordic magic.”
Northern Majesty
A moose enters the round canvas from the right, its gaze calm and steady. Its antlers are built up entirely in golden texture paste and rise visibly from the surface – in places the gold runs down in drips. Behind it, green and white bands of aurora with splashes of paint sweep across the deep blue night sky, above a dark mountain and a lake catching golden reflections. The northern lights are painted with fluorescent acrylics and change their effect depending on the surrounding light.

Texture, gold & light
A photo only shows part of it: many of the paintings are built up in relief and react to the light around them.
Texture paste
Mountains, snow, rocks and antlers are built up in relief – texture you can see from the side and almost feel.
Metallic gold
Gold paint, gold leaf and metallic accents catch the light and change as you move past the painting.
Fluorescent acrylics
Parts of the northern lights are painted with fluorescent acrylics and change their effect depending on the surrounding light.
A painting made
for your space
For private homes, cabins, lodges and hospitality spaces I create individual works in my contemporary Nordic style – adapted to the room, the light and the interior.

Katharina Schmidt
Katharina Schmidt is the artist behind Schmidterling®design, based in Trysil, Norway. She has painted since early childhood. After emigrating to Norway in July 2025, the northern landscape, its wildlife and the quiet intensity of everyday life drew her back to painting with new focus.
Her paintings combine acrylic with texture paste, metallic gold and fluorescent accents – recognisable motifs with an abstract, untamed energy. Allowed to be wild, imperfect and alive.
